What is RV insurance?

RV insurance protects your RV, camper, or trailer in the event of an accident or extreme weather. RV insurance is required by law in the majority of states. Choosing the correct insurance to safeguard your motor home from theft, damage, and loss needs careful consideration.

If you cause injuries or property damage to others, RV insurance can protect you, as well as pay the cost of repairs to your vehicle if a covered occurrence occurs. You have a choice of coverage options to select from, depending on whether you use your RV for pleasure or as a full-time habitation. The same rules that apply to insuring your permanent home and passenger vehicle apply to RV insurance, whether you use it part-time or full-time.

Why Buy RV Insurance?

RV insurance is essentially a combination of features from a vehicle and a homeowner’s insurance policy that results in a comprehensive, tailored coverage package. Because an RV is a vehicle, it also can cover (liability), comprehensive, and collision coverage.

Total loss, replacement, and personal property replacement are some of the specific RV coverage choices available. However, because an RV is also a temporary or even permanent residence, RV insurance is more comprehensive than conventional automobile coverage.

RV Insurance Coverage

Comprehensive

It’s precious to know that your RV, personal belongings, and wallet are all secured in the event of an incident or accident while on the road. The RV lifestyle is all about getting out on the open road and enjoying the beautiful outdoors up close and personal. Insurance coverage for full-time RVers has you covered with even more personalized options:
  • Liability (personal injury or property damage) in the case of an accident caused by you.
  • Collision Coverage for your RV against any accident with another vehicle, RV, or even at a campsite.
  • Comprehensive coverage for your RV against theft, vandalism, fire.etc
  • Potential Towing or Storage Fees.

How much does RV insurance cost?

The entire cost of your RV insurance will be determined by the coverage, liability limitations, and deductibles you select. If you choose to have a greater deductible, your insurance may be less expensive. RV insurance costs are determined by several factors, including your state’s insurance regulations, your driving history, and your demands.

RV Classifications

There are 3 types of RV Classifications. Coverages and rates are determined according to their classification.
Class A
Class A RVs are the larger type of motorhomes usually with two slide-outs and a boxy rectangular look. They have lots of space, are built on a heavy-duty truck chassis, and can sleep about 6-8 people. Some even being as long as 45FT. This large type of motorhome is not very fuel-efficient.
Class B
Class B RV’s are the smallest of the 3 classes. They are more fuel-efficient but unlike Class A lack space. They still have the usual amenities like a bathroom, kitchen. etc however in just a more cramped space. These RVs are more affordable and still efficient for 1-2 people.
Class C
The majority of Class C motorhomes include space above the main cab compartment, which is normally a bedroom area. They are kind of in-between Class A and B. Not too small but not too big either. A lot of families usually opt for Class C.
