What is a Medicare Advantage Plan?

Medicare Advantage is also known as (Part C) is a program provided by private insurance companies that allow beneficiaries to enjoy additional coverages and options beyond traditional Medicare. Unlike traditional fee-for-service coverage—in which you pay doctors and hospitals directly for their services—Medicare advantage plans reimburse medical providers under a managed care model.
This means that your health care is coordinated through your plan provider at a set cost per month. If you’re currently enrolled in traditional Medicare but are considering taking advantage of all that Medicare Advantage has to offer, it’s important to understand how it works and what benefits it can provide. Our complete guide will give you everything you need to know about Medicare Advantage plans so you can decide if they’re right for you!

Difference between Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare

One of the biggest differences between enrolling into a Medicare Advantage plan and only having Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) is that most Medicare Advantage Plans include Part D/Prescription Drug Plan within it. Plans may also cover other benefits, such as vision, hearing, or dental benefits as Original Medicare does not cover these ancillary benefits.
To qualify for a Medicare Advantage plan, you must be enrolled in both Part A and Part B (Original Medicare), the plans available will be based upon your zip code. You would be unable to change or add-on Part D to your Medicare Advantage plan. The biggest difference in each of the Part D plans is the list of covered medicines and their costs. You’ll receive whatever prescription drug coverage your plan offers when you enroll in it, do note that some Medicare Advantage Plans do not have Part D included. Our agents can help guide you and explain your options so that you know what you are enrolling in.
As compared to Original Medicare alone, many people find that they can lower their costs and increase their benefits with a Medicare Advantage Plan.

Who can enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan?

Anyone who is eligible for Original Medicare can enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, and its enrollment is voluntary.

How can you choose a proper plan through Medicare?

If you’re enrolled in Original Medicare (Parts A and B), that’s great! But if you need more coverage, you may want to consider an add-on plan like Part D, Medicare Supplement, or Medicare Advantage. There are several different types of plans that are offered by insurance companies, and all have their own advantages and disadvantages.

To help you get started on choosing a Medicare Advantage plan through Medicare, here is a guide for how you can choose one best suited for your needs.
